Question

For over 2 years, my stepson lived with us. According to our child support case we do not pay child support to his mother any time he is with us for more than 30 days. However, we recently received a letter telling us that we are in arrears for the time that he was living with us. We live in California and the mother lives in Texas. Court case was in Texas as well. What can we do to have the arrears forgiven? The mother says she can't take off of work to go handle it and the AG's office is telling us it's something she has to do since she's the one forgiving the arrears. If she won't go do it and we have the proof he lived with us for that amount of time, will we have to go to court to have it forgiven?

Answer

You posted this question to California lawyers to answer. This is entirely governed by Texas law. You need to ask the Texas lawyers.
