Question

My previous employer is being sued in civil court under the whistle blowing statute for an employee that was terminated while I was employed. I was her immediate supervisor, however, the actual firing was done by the corporate office. I live in WI and the court case is in IA. I have been asked by my previous employer to be at the trial all four days, however, I have not been subpoenaed. Am I legally obligated to take four days off work to attend a trial I have not been subpoenaed for?

Answer

If you haven't been subpoenaed you're not legally obliged to attend. It would, however, be decent of you to inform your previous employer of that so that they can make other arrangements.
