Question

My soon to be ex-husband has a life insurance policy that he owns on me. He has threatened to kill me several times. I currently have a restraining order against him. He is desperate for money and will try to do anything to take my life to collect on the insurance proceeds. Can I contact the insurance company to get them to cancel the policy even though he has been making the monthly payments. Is there a provision that would allow for the cancellation of a policy owned by him on me.

Answer

No one can maintain a life insurance policy on someone else's life without their consent. You can write the insurance company and tell them you no longer consent to them insuring you.

I would have your divorce attorney handle that and ask the court to issue an order instructing the policy be canceled.

Good Luck.
