Question

My 14 year old daughter would like to apply for enrollment in a particular local high school for fall 2015. Her father wants her to attend a school in a different district than the one she has attended since kindergarten. She doesn't want to go to that school & that school is rated much lower academically where the school she wants to attend is the highest rated in our area. The school she wants to attend has classes, activities & sports she is looking forward to and some of them only offerd at this school. She will also have many friends at this school. It is located 3 miles from my house and 5 miles from her dads house. Can I apply to this school without his agreement?

Answer

The steps you take on school enrollment rests on the specifics of your current parenting order. If the order is unclear, return to court to address these issues. Please review your order with an experienced family law attorney. Due to your daughters age, the court can consider her wishes in school placement.
