can a bank, church or lawyer be a power of attorney. Im having trouble finding one, What do you do when you know no one? the closest people in my life have either passed on or are too old to take on the role of poa, was concerned when I had my will done years ago. the lawyer said not to go for a guardian.

You can ask someone from your church to act as Power of Attorney for you depending on what it is you need the person to do.
A banker may not suffice.
You mentioned that you were told that a guardianship is not a good idea. What do you want the person holding the Power of Attorney to do for you?
Do you need the person to make financial and personal decisions for you? To pay your bills?
Depending on what you want the person to do you may need a guardianship.
