How do you tell if money is left for you in a will?
Either ask the testator or wait for them to die and find out - - there is no legal requirement that someone living must disclose the contents of their will.

There may be situations where a person is hesitant to ask about this, or where asking would cause fights and family rifts. In these situations, a person might feel uncomfortable waiting, and may suspect that those handling the will are finding ways to shut one out.

All wills go through probate court. Probate court is not just for the holdings of people who die without a will (intestate). I believe that wills are public knowledge (you will have to check), or at least if one believes him/herself to be named in a will, more than likely someone at probabe court will be able to verify that.
