What is cruise control?

What is cruise control?
Cruise control is a device that controls the speed of the car without the driver having to step on the gas or brake pedal.

It is the most useful for long distance highway driving where there is not too much traffic.

Common misconceptions:

Cruise control does not steer the car, or keep the car on the road.
Cruise control does not prevent accidents.
